Summary of
Regents' Test Rules and
Exemptions
The Regents' Test is a graduation requirement for all GHC students in transfer (pre-baccalaureate) programs. It is not required of those in career or co-op programs. If you are unsure if the Regents' Test is required for your degree/program, check the GHC Catalog http://www.highlands.edu/currentstudents/catalog/index.htm or talk with your advisor.

New freshmen who have learning support requirements must complete those requirements before making first attempt at Regents' Test.

Rules for Students in Transfer programs & entering GHC before Fall 07:
•Students may take the Regents' Test in the semester after completing English 1101 with a C or better.
•Students must take the test in the semester after they have completed 30 hours if they have not taken it previously.
•Students earning 45 semester credit hours (not counting Learning Support) who have not passed the test must enroll in appropriate remediation courses until they pass the test.
To assure compliance with the Regents' Test policy, a registration hold may be placed on the student's records until student registers for the appropriate remediation class.
Exemptions
Note: National SAT/ACT scores less than 7 years old may be considered for Regents' Test exemption purposes. Institutional administration (On-Campus/ISAT/Residual) SAT or ACT scores will not be considered exemption of Regents' Test.
READING:
•To exempt the Reading test you must have
1. A National SAT I Verbal score of at least 510 or a National ACT Reading score of at least 23.
ESSAY:
•To exempt the Essay test you must have
1. College Board Advanced Placement Score of at least 3.
2. International Baccalaureate (IB) higher-level English scores of 4.
3. Sat II English Writing scores of at least 650.
4. National SAT I Verbal score of at least 530 and an "A" in English 1101
5. National SAT I Verbal score of at least 590 and a "B" in English 1101
6. ACT English score of at least 23 and an "A" in English 1101
7. ACT English score of at least 26 and a "B" in English 1101
8. SAT Reasoning Test, Writing Section exemption score of at least 560 (effective Spring 2007).
