Related College Goal: provide a core curriculum and transfer programs. |
Unit/Team Goal: Students will demonstrate knowledge of the fundamental
concepts of a wellness lifestyle. |
Expected Outcome: Students will be able to understand the alterable and
unalterable risk factors for cardiovascular disease. |
Outcome Assessment: Students will answer multiple choice (MC) questions on
an assessment instrument administered to PHED 1010 classes. |
Performance Targets: Primary Performance Target: In PHED 1010 classes, 80% of students will correctly
answer a MC question distinguishing between the alterable and unalterable
risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
Secondary Target: Of the students correctly
distinguishing between alterable and unalterable risk factors for
cardiovascular disease, 70% will be able to identify a factor that will
reduce cardiovascular disease risk. |
Summary of Data Collected
(Performance Results): Primary Performance Target: 43% of PHED 1010 students correctly distinguished
between alterable and unalterable risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Secondary Performance Target: Of those students who correctly addressed this concept,
51% were able to identify a factor that will reduce cardiovascular disease
risk. |
Recommended Actions: Primary Performance Target not met. Secondary Performance Target not met. The low
percentage of student success on this outcome may have occurred due to
confusing content in one of the potential answers in this MC instrument. It is recommended that this concept be
assessed in the next assessment cycle, with a more directed set of potential
responses in a similar question.

answering a MC question identifying dimensions of wellness, 70% will
correctly answer a question on the application of knowledge regarding a
wellness dimension. |
Summary of Data Collected
(Performance Results): Primary Performance Target: 65% of PHED 1010 students correctly answered a question
assessing their ability to discriminate the dimensions of wellness. Secondary Performance Target: Of those who successfully made
this discrimination, 84% correctly answered a question on the application of
knowledge regarding the dimensions of wellness, thus achieving the secondary
target. |
Recommended Actions: Primary Performance Target not met. Instructors will be requested to review
this concept with students, including emphasizing the 6 components of
wellness, giving examples of each during instructional activities, and asking
students to relate the dimensions to their personal lives through a lab
activity. Secondary Performance Target met. No further action required. |
