Outcome Assessment: Students taking Art Appreciation classes at Georgia Highlands College will write a short essay in which they analyze a work of art.

Secondary Performance Target: Of the ones who made 70 or better, 80% will use appropriate terminology.

Secondary Performance Target not met. Beginning summer session 2006, the instructor will spend more of class-time discussing analysis issues. I will also assign more writing projects that focus on the appropriate use of terminology and concepts. The same assessment tool will be used during the next semesters. |

Expected Outcome: Students will be able to place literary and other artistic works into a historical context.

|
Outcome Assessment: Students taking a combined World Civilization/World Literature course will write an essay (evaluated by a rubric created for this course) in which they will discuss both history and literature. The data collection will take place in Fall semester, the only semester when this combined course is offered.

Performance Targets: Primary Performance Target: 80% will achieve a grade of 70 or better.
Secondary Performance Target: Of the ones who made 70 or better, 80% effectively discussed both history and literature.

Summary of Data Collected (Performance Results): Primary Performance Target: 88% of the students achieved a grade of 70 or better.
Secondary Performance Target: Of those, 24% effectively discussed both history and literature.

Secondary Performance Target was not met. Two additional historical documents have been added to the paper review section course in order to provide additional examples to the students of contextual material. |

Expected Outcome: Students in language courses will demonstrate a knowledge of cultural issues, especially those relevant in the humanities.

Outcome Assessment: Students taking Spanish 1001 and Spanish 1002 will complete an extensive study in which they will research life in several Spanish-speaking countries. The students will fill out a chart in which they compare the data. Then they will write an essay on their findings.

Secondary Performance Target: Of the ones who made 70 or better, 80% show an awareness of the cultural differences among the countries.
