Expected Outcome: Students will demonstrate their knowledge of, and application abilities, regarding effective human discourse in the non-verbal communication area.
Outcome Assessment: We will utilize a pre-test/post-test method
Performance Targets: Primary Performance Target: 75% of pre-test/post-test respondents will score higher on the post-test than on the pre-test. Secondary Performance Target: 75% of the post-test respondents will earn a score of 75% or higher on the post-test.

Expected Outcome: Students will demonstrate the skill of using context clues to derive meaning of new vocabulary.
Outcome Assessment: Students in Read 0099 will be give pre-tests and post-tests consisting of 10 short paragraphs and one short passage from a college-level history textbook. 25 words will be highlighted and students will choose from 4 items the one that best fits the definition of the word as it is used.
Performance Targets: Primary Performance Target: 75% of students will score higher on the post-test. Secondary Performance Target: 75% of students will earn a score of 85 or higher on the post-test.

Expected Outcome: Students will demonstrate their ability to conceive ideas about a topic, synthesize and arrange them logically, and express them clearly in standard written English.
Outcome Assessment: 1. English 1101 students will write essays of 350-500 words. English faculty will review them using criteria modeled on those used by Regents’ Test essay raters. 2. Students in 2000-level literature courses will complete timed, in-class writings on a topic chosen by the assessment committee. A random sample of these writings will be reviewed by English faculty. Evaluators will be given a set of standardized criteria modeled on those used by Regents’ Test essay raters.
Performance Targets: Primary Performance Target: For ENGL 1101, at least 65% of students will receive passing ratings. Secondary Performance Target: For 2000-level English courses, 65% of students will receive passing ratings.
