Haiti Relief Effort


We would like to announce that several student organizations including GHC's Peer Educators, Human Service Club, Chargers Raising Colts, Green Highlands, Spanish Activities Club, Baptist Student Union, Phi Theta Kappa, GLBT-SA and the Writer's Collaborative have teamed up with Gospel Haiti and their Boxes of Hope Program - http://www.gospelhaiti.org/ to send relief to Haiti. We are asking for donations of new items from the list below. Donated items will be sent to Haiti by a ship chartered by Gospel Haiti in late February. The donations will be hand delivered by several volunteers from Gospel Haiti, including Mary Singh who is also a GHC student.

  • Towels
  • Shoes or Sandals
  • Clothes (socks, underwear, t-shirts)
  • Can openers
  • Toys (all ages)
  • Water Bottles
  • Candles, flashlights
  • Batteries
  • Work gloves
  • Small All-in-one Tool Kits
  • First Aid Kits
  • Powder Laundry Detergent
  • Hygiene Items (feminine products, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, diapers, etc.)
  • Non-perishable food (canned foods, peanut butter, cookies, pasta, tomato paste, bouillon cubes, cereal bars, drink mixes, hard candy, etc.)
  • Kitchen Utensils (avoid knives, scissors, and sharp objects)
  • School Materials (book bags, pens, pencils, color pencils, etc.)
  • Large Plastic Totes or Suitcases (These do not need to be new. These items will be used to package the goods in a way that is easy for homeless families to carry with them.)

Donations can be dropped off at the following locations:

Cartersville: Hub and Office of Student Life
Douglasville: Administration Office
Floyd: Office of Student Life and Office of Admissions
Marietta: Administration Office
Paulding: Administration Office
The deadline to donate is February 26th, so that items can be processed and prepared for departure at Port of Miami.
